Featured Oil of the Week – Peppermint Essential Oil – My first love

Peppermint! The reason I jumped and got my Premium Starter Kit!

Rewind to over two years ago. I was hanging out with Anthony’s family and his sister and his mom opened up this tiny bottle and the most intense smell washed over me. Minty goodness. I had no idea what the heck it was and they explained to me what Essential Oils(EOs) were. Never had I even heard of Essential Oils before. Growing up in Prescott, Arizona I am honestly surprised I had never even heard of them. If you aren’t from Arizona, Prescott has a reputation for kind of being a hippie town. Anyways, I was super intrigued but way too apprehensive about smells because of my migraine history to give it a try. Then a few times later they talked me into trying it. I hadn’t ever gotten a migraine from them using it around me, they way I get migraines from scents most people use like perfume. They were using it to help ease their headaches and neck pain which is what I needed help with. I figured why not see if it helps even somewhat. So I put it on and it starts tingling. Like a lot. It was kind of intense. But I loved it. No way did it make my headache go away completely BUT I did feel some relief. It was almost like it relaxed me some and the intense tingling was distracting my mind from my pain.

Side note: I am not claiming peppermint essential oil cures migraines or neck pain. I am not a doctor and will never claim that essential oils cure or treat diseases or health problems. Essential oils support your body just like they support the health of a plant.

Peppermint is the reason that I decided to jump on the oil train and I am so glad I did! This was just the beginning and I found out all the amazing things EOs support my health and wellness with.

Some of the great uses for Peppermint Essential Oil:

  • Use topically to support happy and healthy muscles
    • add two drops peppermint eo, one drop wintergreen eo, and one drop lavender eo to a tablespoon of carrier oil and massage (This is great after a workout!)
  • Use Peppermint Vitality* as an all natural breath freshener
    • Usually, I just dab my finger on the outside of the dropper top of my bottle and then rub it on the inside of my bottom lip. Easy peasy breath freshener. Especially since I can’t chew gum because of the fake sugar!
  • Diffuse to create an uplifting and energizing aroma (great for studying or concentrating)
    • Add 3 or 4 drops to your cold water diffuser. Pairs great with citrus EOs and with Rosemary EO! A great morning wake up recipe is 3 drops peppermint, 2 drops rosemary, and 4 drops lemon
  • Use Peppermint Vitality to help support a healthy digestive system
    • put 2 drops peppermint in a capsule and top with 2 drops of carrier oil. The carrier oil I use for capsules is grape seed oil because it is safe to ingest. I keep a dropper bottle of it near my capsules for easy dropping.
  • Put one drop in your lip gloss to create an all natural lip plumper (not like the crazy chemical ones but a slightly more plump lip!)
  • Add Peppermint Vitality to your water or to your baking recipes (Hint- Peppermint Brownies)
  • Inhale if feeling yucky from a car ride
  • Use topically for bug bite relief
  • Create an air freshener without all those nasty chemicals to freshen your home or car
    • In a small spray bottle add either a tablespoon of witch hazle or a tablespoon of salt. Add 10 drops of peppermint. Top with water. Give a gentle swirl before spraying. Customize the scent with other EOs!
  • Peppermint is a key ingredient in PanAway®, AromaEase®, Aroma Siez™, Relieve It™, and Deep Relief™ Roll-On essential oil blends by Young Living
  • For all the yogis out there: peppermint eo is indicated for excess kapha, is cooling for pittas, and supports the movement of breath for vattas

*The Vitality line with Young Living are Essential Oils labeled for dietary use.
